Honoring Anne Flueckiger Through Adventure and Education

Anne believed in the power of travel to change lives—and she made it her life’s work to guide, encourage, and empower others through adventure. The Anne Flueckiger Scholarship was created to continue her legacy by supporting educators and community leaders who bring that same spirit to the world.

About the Scholarship

Inspired by Anne. Driven by Purpose.

This scholarship honors Anne’s passion for learning, her deep connection to nature, and her commitment to building community through travel. It is designed to support women educators, nonprofit professionals, and community leaders who may not otherwise have access to experiences like those offered by Adventures in Good Company.

Recipients will receive full or partial financial support to join an upcoming AGC trip that aligns with their passions and values.

2026 Scholarship Recipient

MeetEmily_AFScholarship

Last year, we introduced the Anne Flueckiger Scholarship to honor a beloved AGC guide who lived with extraordinary curiosity, courage, and compassion — and who believed deeply in the power of women stepping into adventure together.

This year, we are honored to announce the very first recipient of the scholarship: Emily

Emily is a kindergarten teacher in the Chicagoland suburbs who has spent the past 11 years working with multilingual learners who are new to the United States. Every day, she helps her students feel safe, confident, and proud as they learn English and find their place in a new community.

She believes education can transform a person’s sense of self-worth and possibility — and her students continually teach her about resilience and hope.

Beyond her classroom, Emily volunteers locally, runs a Little Free Library in her neighborhood, and is currently renovating her first home herself — learning plumbing, drywall, and electrical work through YouTube tutorials after long days at school.

Her commitment to lifelong learning is evident in everything she does. When asked what drew her to this opportunity, Emily shared:

“Stepping outside of my comfort zone, traveling to a new place, and challenging myself physically and emotionally would be a powerful reminder that I am a confident, capable, and independent woman.”

Anne’s bold spirit especially resonated with her — from moving alone from the Midwest to Russia and Siberia to leading women into wild places with warmth and attentiveness.

This summer, Emily will join us on Alpine Adventures in Slovenia — hiking glacial valleys and alpine trails in the homeland of one of Europe’s early solo female explorers, Alma Karlin.

There is something especially meaningful about this moment.

The first recipient.
A new tradition begins.
A legacy continuing forward.

We are deeply grateful to the donors who helped make this scholarship possible — and honored to see Anne’s spirit carried into the mountains this summer.
